Some Quilt Projects

I have been working on some quilty projects lately.

Both sets of blocks are from two different blocks on the month from Fat Quarter Shop.

The first block I am going to show you is called Strawberry Picking and it is from the 2013 Designer Mystery Block of the Month. Unfortunately it looks like the kit of the month is sold out and that they only have the finishing kit available. I really like the block and am excited to put this kit all together.

The next two blocks are from the Women of Courage Block of the month that Fat Quarter Shop did last year. Each block is named after a famous Women in History.

The first block is called Nancy Wake. She was a neat lady, she served as a British Agent against the Nazi's in WWII.

The second block is Sojourner Truth, a Slave who fought for the independence of other Slaves during the revolution.

I think I am excited for this kit because I get to learn a little bit about history and the old style quilt will for perfectly in the spare room.

Now my secret to better corners and matched seams? Well that my friend is starch, and Alyssa Lichner  at Pile O' Fabric has a great tutorial on starching part One and Part two.

Sketch lovers Blog Hop

Welcome to the SG Blog Hop for June, if this is your first stop, you might like to start at the Scrapbook Generation blog and then hop through each link. Here is the list in case you get lost

Scrapbook Generation blog - http://scrapbookgeneration.blogspot.com/

Each blog will share a project using one of the SG sketches as a starting point. You can find the sketches in their books and downloads in the SG store, and there is a free one every month in case you wanted to try it out.

This is the sketch from scrapbook generations National scrapbook day free double page sketch. Located here: Free Sketch.

I used the sketch to document some of the things that happened in June of 2012. Journaling reads: In June Jeremy and Clara attended Tyler's birthday at the Waco Zoo. Clara played tug of war with Nala. Jeremy, Clara, and Diana visited the mammoth caves. In Afghanistan I celebrated the Queen's diamond jubilee (60 Years as queen), and ran a 5K.

I used Kraft for the background and then pulled scraps out for the pattern paper. I love using the sketchs for the scraps, normally there are some small pieces on the sketch so I can use up some of my scraps.

Next on the hop is http://www.tammygrant.blogspot.com/ , leave a comment on each blog and one lucky commenter will receive a free sketch bundle of their choice from the store. The winner will be draw on June 10th, so you have one week to leave a comment.

Good luck and thank you for visiting my blog.

Butterfly Garden

Starting to scrap some pictures from when I was gone in 2012. National Scrapbook day is giving me some great inspiration.

This layout combines two challenges on the Scrapbook Generation Blog.

Challenge #3 To use a one page sketch - Mine is from their book one page sketches volume two

and

Challenge #6 Use five products  - I chose 1. Washi - the pink chevron, 2. Mist - I misted the love and you, 3. Jewels - Hmmm I forgot to put those on before I took a picture, they are there know i promise 4. Enamel Dots - They are the blue and green dots, and 5. Wood Veneer - The Love and You.

The floral paper is American crafts, the yellow is october afternoon ticket booth, and the black is Heidi Swapp adore.

And I had a helper to take this picture.

A perfect day

So I was able to grab the papers and can now put my layout up.

The full layout

Some closeups

I used two studio calico kits for my layouts.

Sock hop and more patterned paper unfortunately they are both sold out.

link to the heart paper (two peas in a bucket)
the yellow paper is exclusive to the kit
the blue paper is from bazzil I have no clue what color
The mickey hearts are black pow glitter paper
The thickers are from american crafts
Finally I added shipping tags red and yellow

I created the mickey ears with my silhouette cameo. If you want the cut file tell me below and I will work out a way to get it to you.

The dog photo bombed me

So I am participating in a Layout a day (LOAD) for the month of February. The idea is that you make a layout a day based upon a prompt given to you.

Well I went outside with Clara to play today and take pictures of my layout as it was completed. When I went to go snap the first picture Nala photo bombed me see.

You can also see a little bit of my lay out in the picture.

Once I get all the specifics of paper written down. i.e. little bit is not playing with me. I will get it uploaded.

The weather today

This morning my facebook status said:

Hmmm the news is all about the bitter cold. It's 61 at 6 an what bitter cold? It's hot!"

Due to payday activities we got off at noon, by then it was in the 80's. Because it was so warm I thought that it would be fun to play with Clara's water table.

The temperature at 4:00 PM. The 84.3 is outside the 76 is inside.

Pouring some water from up high.

 Splashing around.

Yes we had a lot of fun playing outside with our water table in January. We are supposed to get a cold front tomorrow, which I think means we only get to the upper 60's.

How is the weather where you are living?

Start of our trip report

So what is mommy (me) coming home form? Why that would be Kabual, Afghanistan. I just spent a lovely 9 months away from my family in another country, helping teach Afghanis logistics. I have to say compared to some people on deployments my deployment was very easy and I was lucky. There were very few times that my FOB (camp) was on lock down, I only had one roommate and we had indoor showers. I also had Internet in my room so I was able to SKYPE with DH and DD on a regular basis. It was hard being away but modern technology is great and I was able to talk to my family a lot.

So now with that little bit of background there is also another reason we took this trip is I got a crazy idea that since the Disney World half marathon was in my time frame of when we wanted I wanted to register for it and run. With that in mind our Disney days would be January 5th to the 13th. However, my DH really wanted to drive and to make part of the vacation about him so we decided to leave on Sunday the 30th drive to Florida meandering down and making some stops. I wont talk about that part of our trip unless you want me to but I will talk about our few days we spent at universal studios.

So without further ado a few quick 5 ws.

Who:

DD Clara  16 months old during the trip, me  old enough :

What: Celebrate my coming home with a fun and awesome trip.

Where/When: Jan 3-5th Universal Studios Royal Pacific Hotel

Jan 5th-13th  Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo house Club Level

Why - Who does not love disney? and since when my DH came home from Iraq we went to Disney it's a tradition now :).

Half Marathon

I thought I would start off my 2013 blog with a little bit about what I did today.

TOday the alarm clock went off at 3 am!!! Crazy I know right. However, it was worth it as I had a lot of fun today. What did I do you may ask? Well I ran the Donald Half Marathon in disney world.

Now the following is a picture I pulled off the rundisney facebook page found here : Run Disney Facebook Page

My official finish time is 2:32.20 I was shooting for under 2:30 but with all the walking I have been doing the last week while at the parks and the heat I am a ok with my time. The next one I bet I can get under 2:30 :).

I also got a really cool medal, and wore it around the few hours I was at the park today. You will have to excuse the sweaty iPhone picture I had just finished and was on the bus going back to my hotel.

After the marathon, we went to Animal kingdom so I could eat and ride one last ride. Then came back and me a little bit had a nice long nap, packed up the room and we are headed out back home tomorrow after a great vacation.
